A Look at Some Weird Things
A Look at Some Weird Things
You know, when you stop and think about, there’s a lot of weird things out there. For instance, why are actors and rock stars who have fame and lots of money often end up imploding with drugs, divorce, arrests or some other kind of dysfunction? You would think they’d be happy, no?
Or how about Broadway shows? There is new Broadway play called Equus, a revival play that stars Daniel Radcliff (a.k.a. Harry Potter) who appears fully naked in the play! I have to admit, it would be very weird to see Harry Potter fully nude. A strange but fantastic Broadway musical now playing is Wicked, a prequel to the famous Wizard of Oz. Wicked the musical has been a huge success on Broadway and on its national tour.
Here’s another weird thing: Cheech and Chong, the famous comedic duo of many years ago, are getting back together for a renunion tour. Are they still relevant today?
I lived in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dublin and grew up in Boston (and a Red Sox fan) and you know what’s weird about that? Living in Los Angeles and Las Vegas are more like being in a foreign country that living in Dublin, Ireland! Boston and Dublin are very similar, but the culture in L.A. and Vegas is weirder for this east coast person.
Another thing I find very wierd is that this country can be so divided between red and blue states, or “liberals” and “conservatives”. How can America have such a polarized population? It seems very strange. Why only two ways, why aren’t there four or six competing ideologies? Or why aren’t we all basically united?
What about the popularity of Paris Hilton? How did she get famous? She doesn’t seem to have much talent at anything. I know she released a CD with her singing, but it did’t sell very much at all. I think she’s famous just for being pretty and rich. That just drives me crazy.
Here are some other weird things. Why is the UFC more popular now than boxing? How has the WWE managed to be so successful, don’t the fans know it’s all fake? Or why did the MLB strike a few years ago not negatively impact the popularity like the NHL strike did to hockey? These are the things I stay up at night thinking about. I have no answers, only questions.
